2023 Running of the Bulls Information

EVENT DETAILS

Welcome to the 3rd Annual Saint Simons Island - Running of the Bulls Charity Redfish Tournament! Hosted by the Kids Can Fish Foundation Inc, a 501 (c) (3) domestic non-profit charitable organization.

​

Your entry will greatly impact the life of youth anglers as portions of the tournament proceeds will benefit the Kids Can Fish Foundation.

 

This tournament is LIMITED to 200 anglers; however, no youth participants will be denied entry (i.e. if 200 anglers register, youth anglers can be added taking the total over 200).

​

** THIS IS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT **

 

** Entry fee refunds are only processed until September 6, 2023 and are subject to a 25% service charge.  All entries after September 6 are non-refundable. 

​

$65 Adult Entry

​

$40 Youth Entry (15 and younger by October 6th and must be accompanied by an adult).

 

$25 Calcutta.  75% payout with 25% being applied as a donation to Kids Can Fish.  Last year's Calcutta won $1600.

 

Dates of Tournament: October 7th and 8th, 2023

 

Location: Coast Guard Station / East Beach

4100 First Street, St. Simons Island, GA 31522

Parking: 250 spaces are available at Coast Guard Beach and other public beach access points at first come/first serve. Overflow parking available at Massengale Park or at public beach access points. Please adhere to SSI parking restrictions and private property homeowners at your own risk.

​

Registration: Early registration will take place at the tournament Welcome Party on October 6th as well as at the Coast Guard Beach parking lot at 6:30 am on October 7th.  Registration will not be open on October 8th.

​

First Cast (Lines in the water): 8:00 am daily

​

Lines Out of the Water: October 7th 4:30 and October 8th 3:30.

​

PRIZES and AWARDS:

 

Adult: Top 7 Adult will receive cash awards and other prizes based on tournament entries.  Payouts will be posted the week of the tournament.

​

Top 7 Youth Anglers top 3 anglers will receive a custom trophy from Alabama Burning, a custom Team Rainshadow surf fishing rod built by Bandit Custom Rods that will be paired with a Florida Fishing Productions 6000 Osprey reel. 4th through 7th will win a trophy as well as various sponsor related prizes.

Calcutta: Determined by single Redfish with the most total spots from both sides. Tiebreaker will be determined by total length of the fish. In the event of a true tie, cash award is split among tied fish.

​

Baby Bull:  The smallest redfish caught will receive a Baby Bull Trophy by Alabama Burning as well as a fishing related prize.

​

FREE GIVEAWAYS: 

 

1. Every angler registered will be entered in a drawing to win a custom surf cart manufactured by Surf Fishing Solutions.  The drawing will take place at the tournament welcome party on October 6th.

 

2. The first 50 registered anglers will receive an additional entry to win the custom surf cart and two free raffle tickets for the awards banquet giveaways.

 

3. The First 50 youth anglers will receive a free prize that has yet to be determined.

4. Daily tournament giveaways (i.e. first fish caught, etc.).

​

TOURNAMENT SHIRTS:  

 

Tournament shirts will be PRE-ORDER ONLY and will close on August 6th.  PLEASE ORDER IN ADVANCE.  Tournament shirts are available on the www.kidscanfish.net shop and can be picked up at all tournament events.  Shirt orders are NON-REFUNDABLE.

TOURNAMENT RULES

​

This is NOT a team event. Single anglers only unless assisting a youth angler.

​

Adult anglers must possess a current Georgia Saltwater Fishing License and abide by state fishing guidelines

​

2 rods per person maximum.

​

Live, frozen, and artificial baits are permitted. Cast netting for bait is permitted.

​

Qualifying fish are recorded by Catch, Photo, and safe release.

 

Tournament official must record each fish.  Disputes must be finalized prior to release and agreed upon between the angler and judge.

​

Fish are measured by total length with a PINCHED TAIL.

​

Most spots determine tie breaker. Equal spots will result in a tie for place and cash prizes being compressed for lower placings (i.e. true tie for first share 1st and 2nd place earnings, etc.).

​

Leaderboard updates will be provided via the tournament Facebook group at 10:00, 12:00, 2:00 and at the end of each day.

​

Tournament zones must be adhered to and will be determined by participant numbers.

​

Boats, kayaks, and air delivery of any kind of bait is prohibited.

​

Only circle hooks can be used to promote clean hook set and safe release.

​

YOUTH SPECIFIC RULES

​

Participants with significant disabilities that are over the age of 15 can be entered in the youth division as determined by tournament organizers.  

​

Youth participants must be strictly monitored if entering the surf. It’s encouraged for youth anglers to remain in shallow waters and wear personal floatation devices.

 

Youth participants are encouraged to do most of the work.

​

Adults can cast for youth participant.

​

Adult can take fish off the hook and prepare for release.

​

Youth participant is encouraged to bait own hook but can be assisted by the adult partner.

​

Adult partner can hold the rod at base, but youth participants must reel in the fish.

​

Fighting belts are permitted.

​

SPECIAL NOTES

 

Tournament t-shirts will be available for PRE ORDER ONLY.  Find them on the Kids Can Fish store at www.kidscanfish.net  

​

All anglers who win a prize must be present at awards banquet to collect prize or be willing to pay shipping of said prize.  For example, some fishing rods cost up to $100 to ship.

SOCIAL EVENTS​

10/06 - Kickoff Party, 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm. Location: Port City Park. 1311 Newcastle Street, Brunswick, GA 31520.

Free event, with music, food trucks, beverages, and raffles!

​

10/07 - No scheduled Events, enjoy the island.

​

10/08 - Awards Ceremony, 6:00 - 10:00 pm. Location:  Village Creek Landing 526 South Harrington Road St. Simons Island 31522

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED

We will need 20-30 volunteers each day to serve as beach judges. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please register here at Kidscanfish.net or email our Tournament Director at: Brandon@kidscanfish.net

Kids Can Fish is a 501 (c)(3) non- profit organization and can provide our Federal Tax Identification Number for your taxation purposes.
